What Are Your Hosting Needs?

As people look into hosting bandwidth and space is available cheaper than most can imagine.  This leads to confusion for how much one needs and many times people will over spend on the actual hosting they really need.

Let us take a step back and see how much you actually need of both for your hosting needs.  So no longer getting caught up in the large deals you have no need for.

The first thing you need to do is to know how big your site is going to be.  When you build your first site it will be smaller than you first thought.  I know you want to place video and graphics on your site.  But be realistic in web hosting first making those are harder than you can imagine and second you don’t want to make your website so big it is hard for people to download. Many people are still not on fast access internet and you do not want to make your site take forever to load.  Your website should not be any larger than 500k.  So purchasing 10 Megs worth of space would be plenty.

Next is figuring out how many visitors you are going to get.  Having a goal of a 1,000 visitors is good for many.  This can be hard but done if you catch a break on the way.  After that you can just take your site size and use a 1,000 as your guideline and you can figure out the bandwidth you need.
For most it is less than they thought.  Now you can overlook those larger packages that you will not need when starting off.  Purchase enough to get started and to have some expansion and then upgrade your web hosting when the time is right.
